Healthy Beverages in Every School

May, 2018

Dear school leader:

The Massachusetts Health Council wants to help you make your school community healthier in the upcoming academic year! Our Healthy Beverage Campaign encourages healthy beverage choices while educating students about the health harms of sugary drinks. It works because it is easy to implement and can be modified for your unique community. A simple concept with the potential to make a big impact.

We will be selecting a small cohort of schools to partner with and are able to offer a $500 stipend to schools whose application is reviewed and accepted by July 31st.

As an internal partner, we encourage nurses, health teachers, school wellness committee members or others to build a diverse team in their school that includes student leaders. As a not-for-profit organization, we thrive on the dedication of our volunteers and look forward to creating new relationships with the next generation. Each volunteer on your school’s team will collaborate to design what will work best in your school.

While each district is unique, we recognize that there are some standard components that should be implemented at all locations to assist in benchmarking progress toward healthier choices. These components we’ve designed for you but can also be modified to fit your community of students.

Learn about your students’ beverage choice behavior with our easy-to-use online poll and ask them to think critically about the data

Engage with your students using our fun, interactive presentations for a single class, grade or whole school, whatever suits your needs. We can also help you find passionate presenters that live in your community.

Identify classroom policies regarding water consumption during the school day or create one that takes into consideration the needs of teachers as well as the needs of a healthy student.

Perform an analysis of the water accessibility in your school.

We are excited about creating a healthier future and hope you will join us. Please email for more information and to apply.
